Who Takes the Guwahati to Wei Sawdong Falls Cab?

Who Takes the Guwahati to Wei Sawdong Falls Cab?

🌅 Weekend Day-Trippers

Guwahati residents wanting a one-day escape book this route regularly, departing early and returning the same evening. Wei Sawdong's compact trek — just about 600 metres of stepped path — means you see a spectacular three-tiered fall without needing to stay overnight. It fits perfectly inside a single weekend day.

📸 Nature Photographers

Wei Sawdong's bluish-green pools at each of the three tiers create rare, layered compositions you won't find at most other falls in the region. The soft light in the gorge between 9 AM and 11 AM is ideal for photography. Photographers often combine this with Nohkalikai Falls and Dainthlen Falls in a single shoot day.

👨‍👩‍👧 Families with Children

The first tier of the falls is reachable by a short walk down stairs from the parking area, making it accessible for families with young children. The natural pool at the base is safe for supervised wading. Families appreciate having a private cab so they can stop, eat, and set their own pace without rushing for a bus.

🎒 College Students and Friend Groups

Groups of four to six friends regularly split the ₹6000 fare for a spontaneous Meghalaya waterfall day. Wei Sawdong's multi-tiered trail, the optional swim, and the drive through Sohra make it a strong choice for a group adventure. It is one of the more photogenic stops on the Cherrapunji circuit.

✈️ Tourists Flying Into Guwahati Airport

Many travellers flying into Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport use Guwahati as a base for Meghalaya. Wei Sawdong, at around 150 km from the city, is a full but rewarding day trip before or after a flight. ONE Cabs can coordinate airport pickups with direct onward service to the falls.

🔭 Explorers Combining Multiple Waterfalls

Wei Sawdong sits close to Nohkalikai Falls, Mawsmai Caves, and the Double Decker Living Root Bridge, making it a natural anchor for a Cherrapunji combo day. Travellers who want to see more than one spot in a single trip find a private cab essential since these attractions are spread across winding hill roads.

Guwahati to Wei Sawdong Falls Distance, Time & Route Guide

Via NH6  ·  ~150 km  ·  4-4.5 hrs

Wei Sawdong Falls is a three-tiered waterfall located near the village of Tyrna in Sohra (Cherrapunji), East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. Its name comes from the Khasi language, "wei" meaning pool-like and "sawdong" meaning square-shaped, describing the distinctive rectangular pools that form at each cascade. The third tier alone drops roughly 52 metres, and all three tiers together form one of the most layered waterfall experiences in Northeast India.

The drive from Guwahati follows NH6 through Jorabat, crossing into Meghalaya at the Meghalaya border checkpoint, then climbing through Nongpoh before descending toward Shillong. From Shillong you continue south via Sohra Road through Mawkdok Valley, entering Cherrapunji town before the final stretch to the falls.

The NH6 stretch to Nongpoh is generally well-maintained, but the section from Shillong to Cherrapunji involves sharp hairpin bends and narrower roads. During the monsoon (June to September), rain-slicked roads and low visibility are common, so an early 5:30 AM departure is strongly recommended to avoid afternoon cloud cover and return well before dark.

There is no direct train or direct bus service from Guwahati to Wei Sawdong Falls. The falls are accessed via narrow hill tracks from Cherrapunji, and the final kilometres require a vehicle comfortable on steep gradients — a private cab from ONE Cabs means no transfers, no shared-bus delays, and a driver familiar with the Sohra road.

Best Time to Travel Guwahati to Wei Sawdong Falls

🟢 October to February — Post-Monsoon and Winter (Best Season)

The falls are at their fullest in October and November after the monsoon, and the skies are clear enough for clean views of all three tiers. Temperatures in Cherrapunji range from 4°C to 18°C in December and January, so carry a fleece layer, but road conditions are at their safest and most predictable.

🟡 March to May — Spring and Pre-Summer

Crowds are thin in March and April, and the landscape is still green from the previous monsoon. The falls are less voluminous than the post-monsoon peak, but all three tiers are still active and the trek is drier and easier underfoot.

🔴 June to September — Monsoon (Challenging)

Cherrapunji receives among the highest rainfall on earth — over 11,000 mm annually — which means roads from Shillong south can flood or develop landslides during peak monsoon months. The falls are undeniably dramatic in July and August, but the trek becomes extremely slippery, some stretches of NH6 see disruptions, and afternoon visibility can drop to near zero in cloud.

Safety First: Guwahati to Wei Sawdong Falls Cab Standards

Carry water shoes or rubber sandals since the rocks near the pool can be slippery, and pack a light waterproof jacket even in dry season as mist from the falls is heavy. Entry to Wei Sawdong costs ₹50 for Indian nationals and is open 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, so plan your trekdown no later than 3:30 PM if combining with other stops.

What Our Customers Say

Experiences from travellers who booked Guwahati to Wei Sawdong Falls cab with ONE Cabs.

We booked ONE Cabs for a day trip to Wei Sawdong and the driver knew exactly which checkpoint to stop at on the Cherrapunji road for the best valley view. He waited patiently while we did the trek down to the second tier and even suggested we visit Dainthlen Falls on the way back. The whole 150 km route felt well-planned and relaxed, not rushed.

P
Priyanka Borthakur

I travelled with my parents and two kids and was worried about the hill roads after Cherrapunji, but the SUV ONE Cabs sent was solid and the driver handled the bends smoothly. The kids loved the natural pool at the first tier of Wei Sawdong it was shallow enough for them to wade safely. Comfortable seats and a clean vehicle made the long drive feel easy.

T
Teiborlang Myrthong

I had seen photos of Wei Sawdong's blue pools online but was not sure the reality would match, it absolutely does. The fare from Guwahati was transparent with no surprise charges at the end, which I appreciated after having bad experiences with local cabs before. ONE Cabs was responsive on WhatsApp and confirmed the booking within minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions — Guwahati to Wei Sawdong Falls Cab

Wei Sawdong Falls is approximately 150 km from Guwahati by road via NH6, passing through Nongpoh and Shillong before descending to Cherrapunji. The drive takes around 4 to 4.5 hours one way under normal traffic conditions. Allow extra time during monsoon months when road speeds drop through the hills.

A day trip is very doable if you depart by 5:30 AM and plan to leave Cherrapunji by 2:30 PM. The trek to the falls is only about 600 metres of stepped trail, so you spend relatively little time hiking and can combine it with Dainthlen Falls or Nohkalikai Falls in the same day. Returning to Guwahati by 6:30–7:00 PM is realistic.

No Inner Line Permit is required to visit Meghalaya or Wei Sawdong Falls — it is open to all Indian and foreign nationals without special permits. You will pay a standard entry fee of ₹50 per person (Indian nationals) at the falls. Carry a valid government photo ID as spot-checks occasionally occur at the Assam-Meghalaya border at Jorabat.

A sedan like an Innova Crysta or a compact SUV works well for most of the route, but an SUV with good ground clearance is better for the stretch between Cherrapunji and Tyrna village where the road narrows and dips. ONE Cabs provides well-maintained SUVs and sedans suited to Meghalaya hill routes. Avoid smaller hatchbacks for this route, especially during monsoon.

October through February gives you the best combination of clear skies, full-flowing falls from the post-monsoon water table, and safe road conditions. December and January are cooler at around 4°C to 10°C in Cherrapunji, but the falls are at their most photogenic. March and April are quieter and still scenic, though water volume is lower.

Carry water shoes or rubber sandals since the rock surfaces near the pools are algae-covered and slippery regardless of season. A light waterproof jacket and a small towel are useful given the heavy mist at the base of the falls. Bring enough cash — the Tyrna village area has no ATMs and mobile networks can be patchy.

ONE Cabs can plan a full Cherrapunji circuit combining Wei Sawdong Falls, Nohkalikai Falls, Dainthlen Falls, and Mawsmai Caves in a single day trip from Guwahati. Share your preferred stops when booking and the team will build a timed itinerary around the 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM opening windows. Custom multi-stop trips are available at a negotiated fare above the base ₹3500 rate.
